About Our Plans

Barns by Gardner horse barns are designed for horses. That sounds obvious, but many horse barns we run across aren't horse-friendly at all. Ours are open and light and built of heavy timbers that withstand the abuse horses are notorious for inflicting on them. The floorplans work well. The materials we suggest are rugged and available in most market areas. Our construction notes include lots of horse-tested building secrets. And we're proud of the way our barns look when we stand back and brush the sawdust off our jeans.

We offer three basic barn plans with two siding options, available with and without a loft. Your selection also includes our loafing shed with two siding options, and one of our "Premium" barn designs. All can be easily customized by you and your local builder if you want to move things around a bit or add stalls. If your horses do not find any of the basic plans offered here conducive to their lifestyle, please contact Plan It CAD (see Order Form page) for custom plan pricing and details.

All designs are based on engineering to meet building specifications for Northern Colorado's Front Range and may require adaptation for other areas across the U.S. Because material standards and codes vary, consult your local building inspector's office to determine what will be required to approve the plans before issuing a permit.

Building from Barns by Gardner plans

What should you do after receiving our plans? Simple! First, consult your local building department where applicable regarding permit requirements and design compliance with local building codes.

Next, using the included materials list obtain bids from local lumber yards and contractors as necessary. Lastly, follow the included construction notes for sequence of events.

Any builder or carpenter will easily be able to read and follow our plans. Our construction notes are detailed enough that even if your builder is inexperienced with horse barns, he or she should be able to incorporate all the details we do when we build barns ourselves. All the materials we suggest or the equivalent should be available through your nearest lumber yard.
